Scripture

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11.28-30, The Message)

Prayer

O God, giver of life,
whose Holy Spirit welleth up within thy Church:
fill us with the gifts of that same Spirit
to live the gospel of Christ,
and make us ready to do thy will,
that we may share with all thy whole creation
the joys of eternal life;
through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Reflection

The corporate worship of the people of God has always had a processional dimension to it. From the journey to Jerusalem commemorated in the Psalms of Ascent to the design of the fourth century city of Constantinople…the physical body of Christians is not only for sitting, standing, and singing. The body is also for walking in prescriptive ways, as befits a people who are called to walk by the Spirit of God, so that they might fulfill their vocation to walk in the love of God.

— W. David O. Taylor

As you walk

God asks us: “Where are you?”
We answer God: “Here I am.”

Write, speak, or simply pray on where you are.

Here I am…

  • What questions do you have in response to God?
  • What stories of your own life or from another arise?
  • What are your “Amens” — your epiphanies, discoveries, celebrations?
