Serving with Dignity is designed to reframe Christian service from a model that can become transactional, needs based, or paternalistic, into one that is relational, equitable, and asset based. At the heart of the curriculum is the idea of “dignified interdependence”: moving away from simply doing things for people and learning instead to work with people.
This curriculum offers seven interconnected principles:
- Mercy: Serving from the humility of recognizing our own need for mercy.
- Dignity: Recognizing the inherent worth of every person as someone created in the image of God.
- Assets: Identifying strengths and resources rather than defining people by their needs.
- Presence: Learning that being with someone and listening well can be as important as what we provide.
- Grace: Serving freely and without judgment or expectation of reciprocity.
- Hope: Developing a sustainable, faith rooted posture that guards against burnout and cynicism.
- Love: Recognizing that people and relationships are ultimately more important than measurable outcomes.
Join us (Seven Thursday nights, 6-7:30pm beginning October 22) to experience meaningful conversations around these topics and to get curious around the posture we bring into relationships with people experiencing vulnerability.
Please register HERE (link coming soon) for this series so that we can plan for resources and food. Also, please plan to attend all seven training sessions. Email LUIS if you have any questions.
