Scripture
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.
Psalm 23:4
Prayer
Almighty God,
thou hast made us for thyself
and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in thee:
pour thy love into our hearts and draw us to thyself,
and so bring us at the last to thy heavenly city
where we shall see thee face to face;
through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Reflection
Patience, love, wisdom, slowness, and time. Such ways of being in the world are radically different from the clock time-driven, anxiety-ridden ways of living. And yet, when understood within the context of God’s time, such ways of being can be seen as the core practices that mark faithful living within time that is being redeemed. God’s time is slow, patient, and kind and welcomes friendship; it is a way of being in the fullness of time that is not determined by productivity, success, or linear movements toward personal goals. It is a way of love, a way of the heart.
— John Swinton
As you walk
God asks us: “Where are you?”
We answer God: “Here I am.”
Write, speak, or simply pray on where you are.
Here I am…
- What questions do you have in response to God?
- What stories of your own life or from another arise?
- What are your “Amens” — your epiphanies, discoveries, celebrations?
