Walk IX: Be Still

Scripture

Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4.6-7)

Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God,
who hast kindled the flame of love
in the hearts of thy saints:
grant to us, we beseech thee,
the same faith and power of love
that we, rejoicing in their triumphs,
may be sustained by their example and fellowship;
through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord,
who liveth and reigneth with thee,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Reflection

“Be Still.” The Latin term is vacate, from which we get the English word vacation. The invitation of prayer anytime, anywhere is this: Take a vacation. Stop playing God over your own life for a moment. Release control. Return to the created order. Be still. Prayer begins there.
